What is spam? & How do I stop e mail spam?

Spam is unwanted e-mail on the Internet. From the sender's point-of-view, it's a form of bulk mail, often to a list culled from subscribers to a Usenet discussion group or obtained by companies that specialize in creating e-mail distribution lists. To the receiver, it usually seems like junk e-mail. In general, it's not considered good netiquette to send spam. It's the same as making unsolicited phone marketing calls except that the user pays for part of the message since everyone shares the cost of maintaining the Internet.

Here are some helpful tips to stop e mail spam.

1. Never open or respond to spam email.Responding to spam lets the spammers know that they have sent their spam to real email address. Once the spammers establish that the email is real,they will sell your email address to other spammers as a part of a list of active operating email address – this will make you a target for more spam. If enough people just delete the spam after a while spammers would not be a profitable online business at all.
2. Do not open spam email and turn off the preview panel. Generally email come in two formats, plan texts or HTML. Plain text email come only in plain black font. HTML includes color text, stylish font, baskground colors and graphics, ( this is a webpage in HTML).

   HTML emails contained hidden codes that lets the spammers know that you open their email. Responding to unsolicited email, previewing or opening HTML email can let the spammersknow that they have sent their spam to a working a real email address this will make a target formore unsolicited email. To stop e mail spam from happening, do not open or preview unsolicited email.

3. Do not give your email address to untrusted parties only to trusted parties. If you are required to leave your email address through subscribed to a web site for information or member ship. It’s better to use a pop email address like hotmail or yahoo to stop e mail spam.

4. Create email alias that can be replaced you should create at least one separate email aliasto use for all of your ecommerce purchases. When registering for a third party service, like posting to newsgroups, discussion list, message broad and when displaying your email address to the public such as on your web site like this support@yourdomain.com. Always put up a web page that they can email you if they fill out the form and select a catagory on your web page.

   Create email address with letter and numbers combined. Some spammer sure dictionary programs to send their email to common names for example if your email address is Joerockhead@yourdomainname.com you could create an email address containing letters and numbers such as joerockhead@yourdoinmain.com

5. Turn on the automatic filter to stop e mail spam.

6. Use multiple email address. It also a good idea to use at least 3 different email address. You cause one for communicating with friends and family. Use the second one for any new letter you subscribe to. The third email for business. If you are participating in message broads please use pop mail like hotmail or yahoo. They a have and great anti spam soft ware filter.

7. Consider using ISP email account that already has a great or good stop e mail spam filters in place. MSN, yahoo ect... has great filter and cost less than ($12.00 to receives and send email).

8. Get your own domain name if you got your own domain name such as money.com you can set up email just to stop e mail spam purposes and deletes them when you want to you can set up address for business, friends, and subscribe to your favorite newsletter, message broad newsgroup etc...

9. Do not reply or subscribe on AOL on other generic email addresses for business purpose? There are plenty of companies that provide free email service and then turn around and sell them to spammers, advertisers and other third party marketing companies.

10. Do not sign up for stop e mail spam list similiar to the Do Not Call List. these emails are Scams and will lead to your email address being added to more spam list.

11. Do not reply to long chain letters that you receive via email. If you do you will find your email address spam use a good spam filter.

12. Use a good spam filter in addition to the tips above you can use a spam filter programs that scan your incoming email. That program will read and analyze your email and look for words phrase, forge email address and other tactics that spammers will use to get their unsolicited email to your inbox. These programs then send the suspected spam to a spam folder that will automatically delete the email. The downside of the spam filter program that they do not catch or stop e mail spam 100% from coming to your incoming email.
